U.S. Powerball jackpot hits $1.3 billion, and rising

The U.S. Powerball jackpot has climbed to a record $1.3 billion after there was no winner on Saturday.

Ticket sales spiked dramatically in the lead-up to the weekend drawing, with over a quarter of a million dollars' worth sold on Friday alone.

US Markets Anticipate Oil, Retail and China Data

Investors on Wall Street will be waiting to digest several key pieces of data this coming week, with figures set to be released on December’s retail sales, oil stockpiles and China’s trade surplus.

It comes after a turbulent selloff last week on the Shanghai stock exchange, which saw markets fall in the US as well.

The U.S. Powerball jackpot has hit a record 800 million dollars.

There's been a dramatic spike in ticket sales after there was no winner in the Wednesday drawing for $500 million.

Philadelphia Man Shoots Police Officer, claims Inspiration from Islamic State

A man in the city of Philadelphia has shot a police officer multiple times, claiming to be inspired by the Islamic State organization.

He shot a semi-automatic pistol through the driver side window of a police vehicle late on Thursday night.

Tourists attacked at Egyptian holiday resort

Two suspected militants have stabbed and wounded at least two foreign tourists in the Egyptian resort Hurghada, according to reports.

US urges Syria, Russia to send aid to Madaya

The Obama administration says food & medical aid must flow to Madaya and other Syrian towns under seige.

Ad agencies have been sending out photos of the residents of beseiged towns, painfully thin and at the risk of starvation, trying to win attention for the looming disaster.

The towns are reportedly held by groups who oppose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

US congratulates Mexico on recapture of "El Chapo" Guzman

The Mexican authorities have recaptured the fugitive drug lord known as El Chapo, 7 months after his daring escape from jail.


Joaquin Guzman was caught after an intense gun battle in his home state of Sinaloa.

New US Nutritional Guidelines suggest cutting sugar and adding variety

The US Food and Drug Administration has announced that Americans

US Economy Adds 292,000 Jobs

New figures released this Friday by the Bureau of Labour Statistics in the US show that employment surged in December, with 292,000 jobs added to the economy.

The same data also revised employment figures for the previous two months upwards.
