US Governor Christie Firm on Barring Syrian Refugees from Entering New Jersey

The governor of the US state of New Jersey, Chris Christie, is staying
firm on his stance to keep Syrian refugees out of the state. 30 other
US governors have made the same pledge following the Paris attacks.
Governor Christie, who is a Republican presidential candidate, says he
places homeland security as a top priority in his campaign.

American woman completes 20-year sentence for aiding Peruvian rebels

An American woman jailed in Peru for helping rebel forces 20 years ago, has been released and is heading home to New York.
Lori Berenson was convicted of aiding the MRTA revolutionary movement, which was involved in a long campaign of kidnappings and killings.

Black Friday breaks gun background check record

According to the FBI a record amount of Americans had their
backgrounds checked for gun purchases on Black Friday.

Some 185,345 requests were processed and came on a day when a gunman
killed three people at Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado.

Yahoo ‘May Spin Off Stake in Alibaba’, Weighs Sale of Core Internet Business

The board of Yahoo is reported to be discussing the possible sale of the company's internet business, according to Reuters and the Wall Street Journal.

Argentina's Ex President found guilty of embezzlement

A court in Buenos Aires has sentenced Argentina's former President Carlos Saul Menem to four and half years in jail for embezzlement.

NATO invites Montenegro to become member despite Russian objections - [updated]

Montenegro will begin the process of joining NATO after foreign ministers from the alliance extended a formal invitation at a meeting in Brussels. 

The accession of Montenegro unifies almost the entire northern Mediterranean coastline under the NATO alliance. 

The move is already prompting strong responses from Russia which has condemned NATO expansion and says it will be forced to take retaliatory measures.

Negotiations well underway at Paris Climate Summit
