Russia, France to coordinate action against the Islamic State

Russia has intensified its airstrikes campaign in Syria after it was made public that it was a bomb that brought down its passenger jet in Egypt last month killing all 224 people on board. Moscow and Paris, despite their difference on Syria, took steps towards coordinating their bombing campaigns in Syria.

European Union leaders are telling France the country will now have leeway with deficit spending rules, in the wake of the terrorist attacks.

The EU says the security of the French public is top priority.

Several people have been killed and several arrested as French police raid a flat in a northern Paris suburb.

The operation by armed police in Saint Denis is thought to be targeting Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged mastermind of Friday's Paris attacks.

French media report at least two people have been killed, including a woman who blew herself up.

Explosions and gunfire have been heard at the scene and residents in the area have been told to stay indoors.

US state dept: Syrian refugee vetting process 'stringent, lengthy process'


The resettlement of Syrian refugees continues to be a major political issue for the US.

26 States and counting have now said they will refuse the entry of Syrian immigrants in light of the recent Paris terror attacks.

The Obama Administration had already pledged to open the door to 10'000 Syrians this year and criticised the anti-refugee response sweeping America.

However, according to US state department spokesman Mark Toner, while in theory states cannot turn refugees away, they can refuse federal funding for those being resettled...

Boston: Passenger held by police after flight crew interference

A British Airways passenger was restrained Tuesday on board flight 213 while en route from London to Boston. Authorities said she had tried to open an exit door. She was taken into custody at Boston's Logan International Airport.

Pentagon: No Civilian Casualties as US Hits Oil Tankers in Syria

The US Defense Department says there were no civilian casualties during the bombing of 116 oil tankers in Syria being directed by the Islamic State organization. 

Prior to the attack the US dropped leaflets warning the tanker drivers to abandon their vehicles.

The Monday offensive represented an intensifying campaign to cut off the sources of funding for the terrorist group.

UN agencies warn against refugee backlash, playing into hands of ISIL


The United Nations has expressed concern over the anti-refugee backlash following the Paris attacks, and stressed that refugees should not be turned into scapegoats.

Last Friday's attacks have intensified anti-refugee sentiment in Europe and the United States, at a time when the region is facing the biggest refugee crisis since World War Two.

US Defense chief says ISIS attacks "galvanized" France

The US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter says the Islamic State attacks on Paris have "galvanized" the French and led to more transatlantic co-operation in the intelligence sphere.


He was speaking shortly after President Francois Hollande announced that he'll travel to Washington for talks with President Obama next week, before sitting down with the Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss great international co-operation in the battle against the extremists.


Mr. Carter told the Wall Street Journal that he wasn't surprised by the organization's ability to strike at the heart of the French capital.

Venezuela accuses the U.S. of kidnapping first lady's nephews

The leader of Venezuela's National Assembly Diosdado Cabello has accused the United States of kidnapping two nephews of first lady Cilia Flores.

More than two dozen US states say Syrian refugees are no longer welcome due to security fears after the Paris attacks.
