Maternal mortality numbers still too high, according to UN report

Maternal mortality numbers worldwide are still too high, according to
a recent United Nations report

The report, published by the UN's World Health Organization (WHO),
urges immediate action in order to meet the target of the UN's
Sustainable Development Goals.

Venezuelan President's relations appear in US court on drug smuggling charges

Two men arrested in connection with smuggling 800 kilograms of cocaine

Arrests in bid to break up jihadist network linked to Norway-based terrorist

13 people have been arrested in raids across Europe in an-Italian led operation to crack down on a suspect jihadist network.   

Six people were arrested in Italy, four in Britain and three in Norway.    Police say a further four suspects may have escaped by travelling to Syria or Iraq.

Kurds launch major ISIS offensive with US support

Kurdish forces, back by US airstrikes, have launched a major offensive
to retake the Iraqi city of Sinjar from ISIS.

Over Phone, Kerry and Lavrov Prepare for Weekend’s Vienna Talks

As Presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama prepare for Sunday's G-20 summit in Turkey, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry are getting ready for this Saturday's talks in Vienna on Syria, a continuation of last month's discussions in the Austrian capital.

Burundi: EAC won't rule out sending in troops

The East African Community is refusing to rule out sending troops into Burundi, as United Nations officials warn that violence in the country threatens to spiral into an ethnic conflict. Germany takes U-turn on accepting Syrian refugees

Germany has reverted back on its position of its open doors policy for accepting Syrian refugees.
