Over 100 killed in south-Asia earthquake

The death toll is climbing after a powerful earthquake shook Afghanistan and Pakistan along with parts of India, with over 100 people now reported dead.  

The magnitude 7.5 quake was centered in northeastern Afghanistan.

5 Britons confirmed dead after Canadian boat incident

Britain's foreign office has confirmed that five UK citizens were killed after a whale-watching boat sank off the west Canadian coast.


21 out of the 27 people on board were rescued, one person was still missing.

According to preliminary results, Jimmy Morales, a comedian turned politician may become Guatemala's next President.

Suspect in custody after attack in Belgium

Concern about reported Russian activity near undersea cables

There's reportedly concern in Washington that Russian ships and submarines might be looking for ways to interfere with the undersea cables vital to the modern internet economy.

The ultimate fear is that Russia might be scouting for places to cut the fibre-optic lines in some future crisis.

EU and Western Balkan leaders agree to deeper cooperation on refugee and migrant crisis

The leaders of the countries affected on the refugee and migrant route through the Western Balkans have agreed create an additional 100 thousand places in refugee centers to tackle the crisis.

An emergency summit called by the European Union Commission saw the countries agree to bolster the EU's border force Frontex and provide police officers for the hardest hit areas.

Direct flights between Russia and Ukraine halted

Flights between Russia and Ukraine have terminated on October 25 as both countries have banned each other from their respective airspace. The step came after the countries exchanged mutual sanctions following the annexation of Crimea by Russia last year. US TO CONDUCT MORE RAIDS AGAINST ISIS

US forces will conduct more raids like Thursday's operation that rescued 70 prisoners of ISIS in the future, according to the Department of Defense.

Defense Chief Ashton Carter says the raids do not constitute a change to US policy not to participate in combat operations in the fight against ISIS, but is merely an adaptation of existing US strategy.

Mr Carter says the joint US-Kurdish operation saved 70 prisoners who were facing mass execution, their graves already dug and the deaths scheduled to take place after morning prayers.

He also said the US uncovered a significant cache of information on ISIS during the raid, including documentation and electronic equipment.

The Defense chief also said the US is ramping up an assault on ISIS' oil enterprise, which Mr Carter called a crucial piece of the group's financial infrastructure.
