Indonesia's Pres. Widodo Visits Washington

Indonesian President Joko Widodo will meet his US counterpart Barack
Obama in Washington Monday. He is the first Indonesian leader to visit
the United States in a decade. The focus of his visit is largely trade
and investment, but human rights and environmental groups have lobbied
for their causes to also make the agenda.

Russian Spy Ships Near Vital Undersea Cables Concerns U.S.

Russian submarines and spy ships are allegedly operating near a network of undersea cables that carry almost all global Internet communications, raising concerns among American officials. The New York times reports the Pentagon is concerned about Russia potentially planning how they could attack those lines in times of conflict.

EU and Western Balkan leaders meet to discuss refugee crisis

The European Union is holding a mini-summit with the leaders of the Western Balkan nations to try to find new solutions to the refugee and migrant crisis.

US Markets Look Ahead To Apple Earnings and Fed Meeting

Traders on Wall Street are awaiting a meeting of the US Federal Reserve this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, though few expect interest rates to be raised yet.

Direct flights between Russia and Ukraine halted

Flights between Russia and Ukraine have terminated on October 25 as both countries have banned each other from their respective airspace. The step came after the countries exchanged mutual sanctions following the annexation of Crimea by Russia last year. Kiev also accused Moscow of sending arms and troops to help separatists fighting the government forces in the east of Ukraine. Daria Bondarchuk reports from the Russian capital.

US TO CONDUCT MORE RAIDS AGAINST ISIS

US forces will conduct more raids like Thursday's operation that rescued 70 prisoners of ISIS in the future, according to the Department of Defense.

Defense Chief Ashton Carter says the raids do not constitute a change to US policy not to participate in combat operations in the fight against ISIS, but is merely an adaptation of existing US strategy.

Mr Carter says the joint US-Kurdish operation saved 70 prisoners who were facing mass execution, their graves already dug and the deaths scheduled to take place after morning prayers.

He also said the US uncovered a significant cache of information on ISIS during the raid, including documentation and electronic equipment.

Pentagon faces questions over Iraq role

The military operation to rescue prisoners held by the so-called Islamic State is prompting debate in America about the role of US troops in Iraq.

Ukrainian army completes tanks pull out from the front line in Donetsk

The Ukrainian army completed the second phase of the pull out from the front line in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. The pullback began earlier this week with the pro-Russian rebels in the separatist Lugansk province also withdrawing their tanks and smaller weapons from the engagement line. Rescue mission was response to "unique" circumstances, says Pentagon

The Pentagon says the raid to rescue hostages held by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq does not represent a change in tactics by the US military.

Kurdish commandos, backed by US forces, rescued dozens of prisoners in the mission.

One US soldier was killed, becoming the first known US combat fatality in Iraq since the start of the campaign against the Islamic State.
