UK Shadow Cabinet announced

The UK's newly elected leader of the Labour opposition party, Jeremy Corbyn, has unveiled his shadow cabinet.

Mr Corbyn says the reshuffle has created a dynamic and unifying cabinet and that his new line up showed a strong combination of change and continuity.

But as our UK Correspondent Natalie Powell reports, the shake up has not been without controversy.

EU SUMMIT ON MIGRANTS AFTER GERMANY IMPOSES BORDER CONTROLS

European Union interior ministers are holding an emergency summit in Brussels on the continent's refugee crisis.

They're debating an EU plan to share out an initial 40 000 asylum seekers across the bloc on a mandatory quota basis.

Several central and eastern European states have already vowed to oppose this.

And Germany has imposed controls at its border with Austria in response to the thousands of refugees arriving seeking refuge.

David Charter of the Times newspaper is in Berlin - he says it's a surprising move after Germany's initial welcome for refugees.

Emergency EU talks on refugee quotas

EU interior ministers are meeting in Brussels to try to push through a controversial agreement on a quota system to share refugee arrivals across the bloc.

Berlin has called on all EU countries to help share the burden of thousands of mainly Syrian asylum seekers traveling to Germany and has meanwhile re-instated border controls with Austria to try to stem the flows.

CORBYN FORMS FIRST CABINET AS LABOUR LEADER

The new leader of the UK Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, is putting the finishing touches to his first shadow cabinet.

Left-wing, anti-austerity candidate Mr Corbyn faces significant opposition already, however, from within his own party.

He was elected on Saturday by party members but did not win resounding backing from Labour MPs at Westminster.

Many moderate Labour politicians believe the party will be unelectable if Mr Corbyn follows through on his left-wing agenda.

Political reporter Theo Usherwood says there is one shadow cabinet appointment in particular which is raising eyebrows.
