US condemns Russian terror sentence for Ukraine film director

The United States has condemned the sentencing by Russia of an acclaimed Ukrainian film director.

Oleg Sentsov has been given 20 years at a maximum security prison in Southern Russia.

The United Nations expects up to 3,000 migrants to cross into Macedonia daily in the coming months, many of them refugees fleeing war-torn countries like Syria. Venezuela-Colombian border tensions

Tensions are escalating on the border between Colombia and Venezuela, after an attack by Colombian smugglers left three Venezuelan soldiers and a civilian injured.

In response, the Venezuelan government has expelled some 1,000 Colombians who were living illegally in the country.

US markets surge as China cut rates

China's stock market plummeted again on Tuesday posting losses of
7.6%. But despite another day of heavy losses for the world's second
largest economy- the US markets opened in positive territory with the
major indexes up over 2% in the first 30 minutes of trading.

This comes as the People's Bank of China announced it's cutting
interest rates and reducing its reserve requirement ratio.

Shoreham Airshow Crash - death toll could rise to 11

Rescue workers are continuing their efforts in the British town of Shoreham, after a Hawker Hunter jet crashed during an Air Show.


Police believe the final death toll could be 11, while over 200 people have reported missing friends or relatives since the crash.

China cuts interest rate in bid to boost economy

China's central bank has cut its main interest rate in a bid to boost its economy...

Following huge losses on Monday and continuing falls during Tuesday trading, The People's Bank of China has cut the main interest rate by 0.25 per cent to 4.6 per cent.

It says the reduction is aimed at reducing "the social cost of financing to promote and support the sustainable and healthy developments of the real economy".

US leery of emerging Syrian force

European markets up as China stocks continue to fall

European markets have opened higher despite further falls in Asia after China's so-called 'Black Monday'...

It comes after huge losses during trading on Monday  over concerns about the stability of China's economy.

Wall St tumbles on China fears

UN Security Council hears from gay Syrian refugee in first-ever meeting on LGBT rights

Accounts of a gay Syrian refugee's escape from the Islamic State group, and the continued persecution of the gay community in Syria, held the Security Council's attention Monday.
