Firefighters say they’ve  made significant progress in their fight against the massive Rocky fire in Northern California….but a weather forecast with thunderstorms means they face new challenges.

Nonfarm Payrolls Could Indicate US Rate Hike

Nonfarm Payrolls Data due out Friday has Wall Street investors on edge, as it could signal whether or not the Federal Reserve will move interest rates in September. The US economy is expected to add 225,000 new jobs and unemployment is expected to remain unchanged, but an increase in wages would be a sign of economic strength, raising the odds of a rate hike.

U.S. suspects El Chapo is still in Mexico

Its been almost one month since the world's most wanted drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman escaped from a Mexican prison - and U.S. authorities say they believe he is still in Mexican territory. 

The US Drug Enforcement Administration or DEA has confirmed that federal agents are working with Mexican authorities to recapture El Chapo.

Republicans preparing for Thursday's debate

Top Republican candidates for the next US presidential election are preparing for their first prime-time debate, taking place Thursday night in Cleveland, Ohio.

Ten candidates will take the stage, among them the brother and son of two former presidents Jeb Bush, and business mogul Donald Trump, who is currently leading in the polls.

Americans won't head to the voting booth for almost a year, but the debate gives Republican candidates a chance to show their skills - and whoever performs well may end up pitted against Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

Washington Post reporter Janell Ross previewed some of the topics likely to come up in the debate.

Kerry says US will not tolerate restrictions in South China Sea

U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, says the US will not accept restrictions on the South China Sea, in a sharp criticism of China's recent territorial moves.

Addressing a meeting in Kuala Lumpur, America's top diplomat said China's building of military facilities on man-made islands was raising regional tensions.

UK interest rates remain at a record-low on Super Thursday

It's Super Thursday in the UK - meaning that from now on the country's monthly rate decision and minutes from the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee meeting will be released together - ordinarily there is a gap of a fortnight between the two.


It's revealed that interest rates have beheld at the record-low level of 0.5%, while the inflation outlook is soft.

Actor George Cole dies aged 90

The British actor George Cole, best known for his role in the TV series Minder which was sold to more than 70 countries, has died aged 90...

Cole also starred in numerous films during a career which spanned seven decades.

Commuters face battle to work as 24 tube strike continues

Hundreds of thousands of Londoners are battling to work by alternative means, as London Underground workers continue a 24 hour strike...

Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak has confirmed the wing flap found on the French Island of Reunion was part of the missing mh370 plane.

MH370 disappeared in March last year en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

Debris confirmed as part of missing Malaysia Air flight

The debris found on Reunion Island has been confirmed as part of the Boeing 777 plane that went missing, Malaysia Airliens flight MH 370.

Last week, a flaperon, a part of a wing, was found by cleaners on a beach and was transported to France for investigation.

Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak personally confirmed the debris was from the missing plane and promised to continue the investigation into what happened, as he offered condolences to the families.
