MIGRANTS AGAIN ATTEMPT TO ENTER CHANNEL TUNNEL

For a third night running, hundreds of migrants have tried to breach the channel tunnel in northern France, attempting to make their way to the UK.

It came despite British and French attempts to boost security around the port town of Calais, and has prompted a new warning from UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

Russia vetoes UN resolution for MH17 criminal tribunal

Lead-in:

Russia has vetoed a UN draft resolution seeking to establish an international tribunal into the MH17 air disaster in Eastern Ukraine.  Eleven of the 15 members of the UN Security Council voted in favour of the resolution, while three abstained. Julia Lyubova has more.

Microsoft Launches Windows 10 -

Microsoft has launched its much anticipated new operating system.

Russia veto UN resolution on downed MH17 plane

A United Nations plan to set up an ad hoc tribunal designed to punish
those responsible for the downing of flight MH17 has been blocked by
the UN Security Council.

298 people were on board the Malaysian Airlines flight that crashed
whilst flying over Ukraine in July last year killing all those
onboard.

Russia used their power of a veto to block the move citing that while
the MH17 disaster was a criminal act- it's not within the orbit of
international peace and security.

Cincinnati police officer charged with murder

A white police officer who shot and killed an African-American man during a traffic stop in Cincinnati, Ohio will be charged with murder.

The prosecutor announced the charges saying "this was the purposeful killing of another person" and the "most asinine act I have ever seen a police officer make."

Los Angeles to Ban Ammunition for Large Capacity Guns

PARIS AND LONDON VOW TO IMPROVE CALAIS SECURITY

London and Paris have vowed to step up security at the Channel Tunnel in northern France, after a man died trying to enter it to get to the UK.

Online anger erupts at US dentist who killed Zimbabwe's Cecil the Lion

Two men are facing poaching charges in Zimbabwe over the killing of the country's most loved lion, Cecil.

The U.S. dentist who shot the animal, Walter Palmer, insists he didn't know what he was killing, and paid for the hunt.

There are mounting calls for Mr Palmer to be extradicted to Zimbabwe or face justice in the U.S.- while social media has erupted in anger at the killing.

ECB will not to increase emergency loans for Greece

The European Central Bank had decided not to increase emergency lending to Greece as talks continue to secure a third bailout, according to reports suggesting Greece did not request additional liquidity. 

Meanwhile Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras sent a warning over Greek radio to dissenters in his leftist Syriza party saying that a vote against the bailout will force him to call snap elections.

Barclays sees record profits in first half of year

The troubled British bank, Barclays, has reported a 25 per cent rise in pre-tax profit to $4.85 billion in the first six months of the year. 

This compares to profit of just under $400 billion for last year.   It comes as the bank has seen a change of leadership and put aside millions more to compensate customers for mis-selling payment protection insurance.  From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Despite Poor User Growth, Twitter Beats Estimates for Q2

Twitter has surprised many on Wall Street, posting earnings for the
second quarter that beat analyst estimates. Helped largely by a boost

UN Security Council to vote on Malaysia Airline MH17 tribunal
