GUNMAN OPENS FIRE IN US CINEMA

A gunman has killed two people and shot himself dead in a cinema in the US state of Louisiana.

Several other people were injured in the gun attack at the Grand Theatre in Lafayette.

Police say a 58 year-old man carried out the attack with a handgun before killing himself.

Three Dead in US Movie Theater Shooting

A gunman opened fire at a movie theater in the US state of Louisiana Thursday, killing three including himself, and injuring others. Officials have stepped up security at theaters across the state, though they believe this was an isolated incident. The attack comes just days after a guilty verdict was returned for James Holmes, the man who opened fire in a Colorado movie theater in 2012, killing twelve people.

Obama leaves for Africa

US President Barack Obama is en route to Kenya for his first visit to his father’s homeland as president. (leaves Thursday evening EST, arrives Friday morning)
This is his fourth visit to sub-Saharan Africa since taking office – that’s more than any other US president.
He’ll also got to Ethiopia where he will become the first US leader to address the African Union

US Sec. of State takes Iran deal to NYC

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is traveling to New York for a series of meetings intended to help convince a wide variety of interests that the Iran nuclear deal is a good idea.

His trip comes after a long day of testimony before the U.S. Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, where he defended the deal to skeptical lawmakers.

U.S. to Launch Manned Warplanes Against IS from Turkish Soil

The United States and Turkey have reached an agreement in which manned American warplanes will carry out strikes attacks against the Islamic State from Turkish soil.

Kerry strongly defends Iran nuclear deal

America's top diplomat has mounted a robust defense of the nuclear deal with Iran.

Minimum wage hike for New York fast-food workers (WRAP)

The US state of New York has moved to raise the minimum wage for
fast-food workers up 70% to $15 an hour over the next few years.

US unemployment claims fall to four-decade low

American unemployment claims have fallen to the lowest they've been in
over four decades — according to a report by the Labor Department on
Thursday.

The report indicates a strengthening labor market, but economists say
jobs numbers are volatile in the summer months.

US negotiators grilled over Iran nuclear deal

US negotiators allowed themselves to be 'fleeced' by Iran in the Vienna nuclear talks, according a leading US lawmaker.

The criticism was directed at Secretary of State John Kerry during a congressional hearing about the recent deal.

In his opening, the Republican chairman of the US Senate's Foreign Relations committee Bob Corker was highly critical of the agreement with Iran.

EU accuses hollywood studios of monopolising pay-tv

The European Union has accused the UK's Sky TV and six major Hollywood studios of breaking EU competition rules by blocking access to movie content in EU countries.

Nikkei announces agreement to buy Financial Times

The Japanese media group Nikkei has announced it will buy the UK's Financial Times from publishers Pearson PLC.


The offer has been made for 160 billion yen, the equivalent to 1.30 billion dollars.
