6 students killed in California balcony collapse named

Six students who lost their lives when a balcony collapsed during a birthday party in California have been named.


Five of them were from Ireland, and were in the early 20s….another 7 people are being treated in hospital for their injuries.

US hails death of AQAP leader

The Obama administration is confirming Nasser al-Wuhayshi, the leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has been killed by a missile fired from a drone, a fact also confirmed by an Al Qaeda video.

Al-Wuhayshi has been targeted at least twice before for his role as the second highest in command of the global terrorist network.

Dr. David Andrew Weinberg is a Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and he says, this is good news.

Six dead in balcony collapse in Berkeley, Calif.

California officials have confirmed six are dead after a balcony collapsed in Berkerley, home to the University of California.

Many of the dead and injured are Irish and thought to be on special short-term visas to work in America for the summer or complete a summer programme at the university.

Dan Sullivan is one of the Irish students who was living in a different flat in the building.

Civilian cost of Yemen conflict worsening, says UN


As Yemen's warring factions meet in Geneva to seek a political solution, the humanitarian situation continues to worsen back home.


Since June 11, at least 50 civilians have been killed, more than half of them women and children, according to the United Nations.

GREECE DEAL NO CLOSER

Greece's stock market has been slumping for the third day in a row, with the country teetering on the edge of default.

It comes as Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras again criticises the deal international creditors are trying to get his government to agree to in exhange for bailout cash.

Mr Tsipras says the reforms creditors want will put Greece back into recession.

If an agreement isn't done within days, Athens could effectively be bankrupt, and lenders show no signs of further compromise.
