IMF SAYS GREECE WON'T BE ALLOWED TO DELAY PAYMENTS

The International Monetary Fund has knocked back suggestions Greece will be allowed to delay scheduled bailout payments next month as it struggles to avoid defaulting on its debts.

IMF boss Christine Lagarde says the organisation has never allowed an advanced economy a delay to debt payments and won't be doing so for Greece.

The Greek government hasn't yet come up with a list of reforms to satisfy the European Union it should receive the next tranche of bailout funds.

And Athens has been forced to deny it is preparing to default as it runs out of cash to pay its bills.

20 DAYS TIL UK ELECTION - POLLS STILL NECK AND NECK

Britain's political leaders are back on the campaign trail with 20 days until a general election still too close to call.

On Thursday the leaders of UK opposition parties took part in a so-called 'Challenger Debate', which snap polls suggested was won by Labour Party leader Ed Miliband.

However, Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron was not in attendance and will hope that on-stage discussions between Mr Miliband and Scottish Nationalists the SNP about coalition, will have swayed some voters towards the Conservatives.

Labour and the Conservatives remain neck and neck in most polls.

Joe Twyman of pollsters YouGov says Ed Miliband will be feeling happy heading into the weekend's campaigning.

White House: There's Still Unity Within P5+1

US President Barack Obama's spokesman, Josh Earnest, has insisted that there is still unity within the P5 plus 1 group of countries negotiating with Iran over its nuclear programme.

He was speaking after a member of the group, Russia, has announced it's to sell an advanced air defence system to Tehran, having lifted its own ban on the sale of such equipment earlier this week.

Mr. Earnest told reporters that the sale doesn't change Russia's commitment to the nuclear talks:

EU says it has no "silver bullet" to respond to migrant crisis

Fresh incidents on the mediterranean involving dangerous sea crossings by migrants have seen 40 people drown and 12 others thrown off their boat following a religious altercation.

Police in Sicily have arrested 15 muslims for allegedly killing 12 migrants because they were Christian, according to the rescued survivors.

Meanwhile more than 40 migrants drowned off the coast of Sicily after boarding a small inflatable boat from the Libyan capital Tripoli.

These fresh disasters are the latest in a growing trend of migrant journeys from North African countries to Italy, with more than 500 people having died this year alone.

The Italian authorities have issued fresh complaints against the EU for not helping enough, but Nathasha Bertaud, a spokeswoman for the EU Commission, said the EU does not have a "silver bullet" solution to respond to the crisis.
