American Government supports Saudi military action in Yemen

The American government has come out in support of Saudi Arabian military action against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has fled the country as the Shi'ite Houthis have expanded their control over the country, and is now reportedly in Saudi Arabia.

US State Department spokesmnan Jeff Rathke told journalists on Thursday that Secretary of State John Kerry had spoken to members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, or GCC, about the crisis. He said Washington still recognised President Hadi, and said the Houthis had brought the Saudi military action on themselves.

Lufthansa says it had no reason to suspect co-pilot Lubitz

The CEO of Lufthansa airlines says the company had no reason to suspect Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz of being anything but fully capable of flying.

Investigators suspect Lubitz intentionally crashed a Germanwings flight into the Alps, killing all 150 people on board, after locking the pilot out of the cockpit.

Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said Lubitz's motivation is still unknown.

He added that he had passed both his flight training and psychological profiles.

Mr. Spohr said, although commonly practiced in the US, most European airlines do not have a policy of always having two persons in the cockpit at a time. He said Lufthansa has no new policy announcement to make at this time, but will conduct an analysis.
