UK COMBAT MISSION ENDS IN AFGHANISTAN

Britain's combat operations in Afghanistan have ended with the handing over of Camp Bastion in Helmand province to Afghan control.

The UK says its mission in the country has given Afghanistan the 'best possible chance of a stable future'.

Brazilians head to the polls in Presidential Election

Brazilians have taken to the polls today (Sunday) in the second round of the Presidential elections.

Incumbent Dilma Rousseff faces Aécio Neves in a runoff vote after neither managed to secure 50% of the first round vote.

The candidates have different views about how to restart Brazil's faltering economy and the campaigning has revealed deep splits amongst the electorate.

Brazil's economy is the 7th largest in the world and James Lindsay from the US based think-tank the Council On Foreign Relations believes it's a crucial election.

Ukrainians go to the polls as fighting with pro-Russia militants continues

Ukrainians are going to the polls today, in parliamentary elections which many expect to bring in politicians more supportive of reforms President Petro Poroshenko and his government have been trying to enact.

But it's estimated as many as half the polling stations are closed in eastern regions of Ukraine were pro-Russian militants have been fighting Ukrainian forces.

Doctors race to treat Marysville shooting victims

Doctors are working to treat the victims of the school shooting north of Seattle.

Three are very critically ill and one is in a serious condition.

Two people were killed in the attack at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, including the shooter, who's been named as freshman Jaylen Fryberg.

A witness says he went up to a group of his friends in the cafeteria and fired at their backs.

Earlier, the chief medical officer with Providence Medical Center in Everett, Joanne Roberts, gave an update on the survivors.

She said one victim was out of surgery and had been stabilized, another was just coming out of surgery, and one was still being operated on.

Shooter was freshman, students describe school shooting scene

A student gunman and one victim are confirmed dead, with three additional victims in critical condition, following a school shooting near Seattle, Washington.

Students at Marysville-Pilchuck High School say the gunman opened fire in the cafeteria.

Witness Jordan Luton says he was just feet away, when the shooting began.

School shooting in Seattle, 2 dead

A student gunman and at least one victim are dead after a school shooting at a high school outside of Seattle, Washington.

The shooter reportedly injured a number of students before turning the gun on himself.

According to students, shots went off in the cafeteria of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, 30 miles north of Seattle.

Police Commander Robb Lamoureux says authorities believe there was only one shooter, who has killed himself.

They are in the process of securing the school, which is in lockdown.

Commander Lamoreaux asked for the public to stay away from the premises until further notice.

Officials seek motive behind New York Axe attack

After a man attacked several police officers with an axe in New York
on Thursday officials are looking into whether this could be related

Islamic State Uses Chlorine Gas in Iraq

Ebola Nurse Virus Free

Nina Pham, one of two Dallas nurses infected with Ebola, is now virus free and will return home in the next few days.

The 26 year old contracted Ebola whilst she cared for Thomas Duncan who died at the start of October. Her colleague Amber Vinson was given the all clear earlier this week.

In a press conference at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland where Miss Pham was being treated, she thanked those involved in her care and asked for privacy as she recovers.

ANGRY CAMERON REJECTS EU BILL

UK Prime Minister David Cameron says he is 'angry' at a 2 billion euro bill the European Union is demanding by the 1st December.

In a heated press conference in Brussels, Mr Cameron said Britain would not be paying up by that date and may launch a legal challenge against it.

The surcharge follows a review of economic performance since 1995 which showed Britain has performed better than previously thought, and therefore owes more to the European Union budget.

EU finance ministers have agreed to the UK's request for emergency talks on the subject - although some countries such as France and Germany will be in line for a rebate.

UK TO CHALLENGE EU DEMAND FOR MORE FUNDS

Downing Street says an EU demand for an extra £1.7bn budget contribution ($2.7bn) from the UK is 'not acceptable'.

Brussels has made new calculations on what member states should contribute and the UK is being asked for more because of its recent strong economic performance.

The additional funds are due on the 1st December.

The UK says it will work with other countries - like Holland - which are also being asked for more money at short notice.

Some nations like France and Germany are set for a rebate.
