Britain pledges more aid to help fight Ebola outbreak

Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron has announced plans to give a further 80 million pounds (128 million dollars) of aid to help the fight against Ebola in Western Africa.

The aid package brings Britain's contribution to 205 million pounds in total.

UK ECONOMIC GROWTH SLOWS

UK economic growth slowed slightly in the third quarter but still remains far stronger than many of its European counterparts, according to new figures.

The first estimate of Quarter 3 GDP has come in at 0.7% growth.

Sweden calls off submarine hunt

Sweden's military has called off its weeklong search for what many believed may have been a Russian submarine in trouble in the sea south of Stockholm.

Russia's defence ministry has denied any of its ships were in difficulty.

UK TO CHALLENGE EU DEMAND FOR MORE FUNDS

Downing Street says an EU demand for an extra £1.7bn budget contribution ($2.7bn) from the UK is 'not acceptable'.

Brussels has made new calculations on what member states should contribute and the UK is being asked for more because of its recent strong economic performance.

The additional funds are due on the 1st December.

The UK says it will work with other countries - like Holland - which are also being asked for more money at short notice.

Some nations like France and Germany are set for a rebate.

NEW YORK MAYOR CALLS FOR CALM AFTER FIRST EBOLA CASE

The Mayor of New York has called for calm in the city after its first case of ebola.

A doctor recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea in West Africa has tested positive.

He is the fourth case of Ebola in the US.

Nearly 5000 people have died worldwide since the outbreak began, the vast majority in West Africa.

NY Doctor Tests Positive for Ebola

A New York City doctor who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in West Africa has tested positive for the virus, after a preliminary test.

Craig Spencer is now receiving treatment in isolation at Bellevue Hospital, one of eight New York facilities that are designated to receive patients with Ebola symptoms.

Canadian shooting suspect found refuge in homeless shelter

In the days leading up to the attack on the Canadian Parliament, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was living in a homeless shelter in Ottawa.

His parents have apologized for the actions of their son, who is suspected to have had mental health issues.

Possible Ebola Case In New York City

Healthcare officials are looking into a possible case of Ebola in New
York City. A doctor who returned from West Africa within the past 21
days was rushed to a Manhattan hospital with a high fever and
gastrointestinal symptoms. He is now awaiting the results of a test
that will confirm if he will become the fourth person diagnosed with
the virus on U.S. soil.

Investigations continue into Canadian terror attacks

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are continuing to investigate the attack on the National War Memorial and the Parliament which left one soldier dead.

The parents of Michael Zehaf-Bibeau have issued a statement, confessing they might be angry with their son, the perpetrator, and expressing condolences to the family of the slain soldier.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commissioner Bob Paulson confirmed, Michael was the only person involved in the brief and deadly attack.

White House Briefing: ISIS Funding and Ottawa Shooting

As the air strikes against Islamic State continue, the financial attack against the jihadist organisation is being stepped up.

Speaking at the White House earlier, David Cohen from the treasury department said ISIS was amongst the best financed terrorist organisations that the US has confronted.

It makes around $1 million a day from oil sales, as well as receiving money from kidnapping and other sources.

Mr Cohen told reporters that clamping down on the revenue streams would leave the terrorist group unable to fund its expansion.

US evaluating death toll figures from recent ISIL airstrikes

The Obama administration is still evaluating the reports that more than 500 militants and more than 30 civilians have been killed in airstrikes on Islamic State positions in Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights provided the numbers, as the U.S. military continues to plan and carry out attacks intended to drive the Islamic State back.

But U.S. State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki could not confirm the death toll.

Canada pays tributes to hero and victim of shooting

Canadian lawmakers have given a standing ovation to the official who's being hailed as a hero for bringing down the gunman inside the parliament building.

Seargeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers is being applauded for his actions following the fatal shooting of a Canadian soldier at the country's national war memorial.

Progress for American Ebola patients

The two Texas nurses being treated for Ebola are doing better.

Amber Joy Vinson - in Emory University Hospital - is testing negative for Ebola, while Nancy Pham - at the National Institutes of Health - has been upgraded to good condition.

Also, nurse Pham's dog is not infected with Ebola.

Ashoka Mukpo, a freelance cameraman who was working for NBC News when he was infected in Liberia, says he hopes more can be done.

Canada's parliamant returns to work after shooting

Canada's Parliament in Ottawa is back at work - a day after a gunman was shot dead by its sergeant-at-arms.

A soldier was shot dead at a nearby war memorial before the man was gunned down inside Parliament.

He's been named as Muslim convert Michael Zehaf-Bibeau after what was the second attack on Canadian servicement in three days.

Canada's Prime Minister has described him as a 'terrorist'.

Russian spy plane intercepted over the Baltic sea

A Russian spy plane has breached Estonian airspace after being intercepted by NATO jets over the Baltic sea, the alliance says.

The spy was reportedly flying in the direction of what may be a Russian submarine submerged near Sweden's coast before being intercepted.

NATO says it's intercepted a Russian spy plane flying over the Baltic Sea.
