Former NYC Mayor Bloomberg knighted

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been given an
honourary British knighthood.

However, the 72-year-old will not be able to call himself 'Sir Mike'.

US teen arrested at airport 'attempting to join Islamic State fighters'

A Chicago teenager has been arrested after he allegedly tried to leave the US to join the ranks of Islamic State fighters.  

Mohammed Khan was detained at O'Hare International Airport and charged with attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization.

U.S. does not believe Ebola travel ban necessary

The Obama administration does not believe a travel ban is necessary for countries most affected by the Ebola virus outbreak.

Spain is now reporting that a nurse who cared for a priest who died from Ebola in Madrid last month has now been diagnosed with the disease.

An American freelance cameraman has arrived in Nebraska after contracting Ebola in Liberia.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest says, precautions to track possible cases are already in place.

IS flags appear in Kobane amid reports town close to falling

US-led coalition air strikes against Islamic State fighters have failed to stop the militant advance on the Syria-Turkey border town of Kobane. 


Reports say an IS flag is now flying outside the city centre where Kurdish forces have been engaged in fierce fighting with the well-armed jihadists.

Parents of US Cameraman With Ebola Say He 'Looks Strong'

An American video journalist who caught the Ebola virus while working in Liberia has arrived at a hospital in Nebraska for treatment.

Ashoka Mukpo arrived by ambulance on Monday, having walked off the plane himself. 

His parents have traveled from Rhode Island to Nebraska, but  will have to rely on a video chat system in his hospital room to communicate with their son during his treatment.

Mr Mukpo's father, Dr. Mitchell Levy, said Ashoka's not sure exactly how he might have contracted the disease:

Kenya's President Kenyatta will appear before ICC

Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced he will appear before the International Criminal Court in The Hague this week.


The President is accused of organising ethnic massacres after the December 2007 elections, in which 1,200 people died.

Parents of American IS hostage release letter he sent in captivity

A US hostage who is being held by Islamic State militants in Syria has said he is scared to die in a letter sent to his parents.

Abdul-Rahman Kassig, known as Peter Kassig before he converted to Islam, wrote in June that he was saddened by the pain his ordeal was causing to the family.

Cameraman Arrives in US For Ebola Treatment as Dallas Patient Fights For Life

The freelance NBC news cameraman who was diagnosed with Ebola in Liberia has arrived at a hospital in the US state of Nebraska to be treated for the virus.

33 year old Ashoka Mukpo left Liberia on a specially equipped jet on Sunday- meanwhile, federal health officials have said that a man diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas last week is currently fighting for his life.

Honeymoon murder accused admits to being bisexual

UK jihadists among suspected Turkish prisoner-swap

Nobel prize for medicine goes to researchers who found the brain's GPS


A professor at University College London and two Norwegian scientists are to share this years Nobel Prize for Medicine, after discovering what was described as the brain's inner GPS system, that allows humans to orientate themselves.

The Nobel assembly in Sweden said the three researchers has solved a problem that had occupied philosophers and scientists for centuries.    From London, Catherine Drew reports.

F1 DRIVER BIANCHI UNDERGOES SURGERY FOLLOWING CRASH

F1 driver Jules Bianchi has had surgery after crashing at the Japanese Grand Prix at the weekend.

The 25 year-old suffered a severe injury and was unconscious when taken to hospital.

The Marussia driver hit a recovery vehicle which was attending to a Sauber car which had spun off into the tyre barriers.

The race took place after heavy rains preceding typhoon Phanfone.

Suicide bomber blows himself up during Chechnya city celebrations

A suicide bomber has blown himself up in the Chechen capital Grozny, also killing five police officers and wounding and least twelve other people.


While Russia's interior ministry said the efforts of police officers had stopped a greater death toll, it comes in a region that some in Russia had said was pacified.

Body in process of being cooked found in Brisbane

Details are beginning to emerge of a grisly murder suicide in
Australia's Brisbane over the weekend.

White House: Not Considering Travel Ban for Ebola


The first patient diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S. has fallen into critical condition at a Dallas hospital. Thomas Duncan first arrived in serious condition just one week ago.

Duncan's is the only case of Ebola that has been diagnosed in the U.S., and those who were in contact with him are not ill. The White House is urging Americans to not over react, and confirmed their belief that there is no significant threat of an outbreak in the U.S. currently.

Speaking to America's CNN News, CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden urged people to take the threat seriously, but to not worry.
