Putin and Poroshenko "agree" on how to end Ukraine crisis; Obama arrives in Baltics before NATO summit

Russian news agency Interfax has reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko have largely agreed on "possible ways out" of the ongoing crisis in Eastern Ukraine.


This comes as US President Barack Obama arrives in Estonia for talks with Baltic leaders about the Ukrainian crisis, before attending a NATO summit in Wales later this week.

US to step up protection of its diplomats in Iraq

U.S President Barack Obama has ordered some 350 additional military personnel to be sent to Iraq to protect American diplomatic staff in Baghdad.

The White House statement stresses that troops will not be serving a combat role on arrival.
The move follows the release of an Islamic State militant group video, which shows the apparent beheading of captured U.S.  journalist Steven Sotloff.

Another American doctor diagnosed with Ebola

A Christian missionary group is confirming that one of its doctors working in Liberia has tested positive for Ebola.

Two Americans - one doctor and one missionary worker - were airlifted to Atlanta, Georgia for special treatment after developing Ebola.

World Health Organisation warns of spreading Ebola

The World Health Organisation has warned the Ebola epidemic will get
worse before it gets better.

1,500 people have now died, and the WHO estimates as many as 20,000
people could become infected.

Condemnation grows for video of Stephen Sotloff

The Obama administration is extending its condolences to the family of Stephen Sotloff, following reports the Islamic State has issued a video depicting his beheading.

The Committee for the Protection of Journalists issued a statement condemning the reported video saying., being butchered in front of camera simply for being a reporter is pure barbarism. 

White House spokesman Josh Earnest could not confirm the validity of the video.

Stephen Sotloff family grieves after Islamic State releases video showing beheading

The US government says it's working to verify the authenticity of a videotape that appears to show the beheading of  American journalist Stephen Sotloff by Islamic State militants.

Mr. Sotloff's family have gathered in Miami where they are reportedly grieving.

Also on the video the group threatens the life of a British hostage.

Russia's Foreign Minister says US should reign in Kiev

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has repeated his call for the US to use what he has called its, "influence," over Ukraine government to stop Kiev's military operations in the east of the country.


Ukraine has been trying to region territory captured by pro-Russian rebels that Kiev and western governments say are fighting with and supported by a Russian troops on Ukrainian soil.


Foreign Minister Lavrov spoke of the importance of Ukraine government talking to pro-Russian militants, something Kiev has previously rejected, saying they are backed by Russia.

Russia's Foreign Minister warns against Kiev seeking NATO membership

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says that Ukrainian calls to abandon its non-aligned status and seek membership of NATO membership will undermine peace.


At a press conference he continued calls for a negotiated settlement in the east of Ukraine while international accusations mount that Russia has invaded Ukraine in support of militants fighting government forces there.


The Foreign Minister spoke of what he called a, "party of war," in Ukraine's capital.
