STARMER RESISTS CALLS TO RESIGN OVER MANDELSON VETTING

Aides to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer say he is not going to resign over the latest controversy around the appointment of Peter Mandelson as ambassador to Washington.

It's emerged Mandelson was appointed to that role despite failing security vetting.

The government insists no ministers were aware the Foreign Office overruled that vetting process.

The top civil servant in that department, Olly Robbins, has been sacked over the issue.

Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Darren Jones says Keir Starmer is 'furious'.
