UK Prisons are being destabilised by drugs being smuggled in by drone, according to the prison watchdog.
In its annual report HM Inspectorate of Prisons has warned that overwhelming quantities of illegal drugs are making their way into the prison system, often transported by drones, compromising safety and preventing rehabilitation.
The report says the issue has created huge pressure for those living and working in prisons, with violence increasing 'in step' with the flow of illegal drugs.
The Chief Inspector of Prisons, Charlie Taylor, who heads the independent watchdog has said that a failure to tackle the security issues presents a threat to national security.
