U.S. Senate votes on stopgap funding measure, up to House lawmakers to agree


INTRO:


Members of U.S. Congress have put forward a short-term spending proposal to try and avoid a government shutdown.

Late on Tuesday, Senators voted on what's called a 'continuing resolution' which they could send to the House later this week, to vote on before a September 30th deadline.
