The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has called on
countries to intensify their efforts to prevent conflicts, protect
civilians and preserve peace.
Guterres was addressing a high-level security council meeting in New
York on Tuesday.
The aim of the meeting is to address the challenges of protecting
civilians and essential services in regions of conflict.
The Secretary General says the number of civilians forced from their
homes due to conflict, violence and human rights violations has now
reached 100 million.
