US President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are set to meet on Monday afternoon, after negotiations on increasing the US debt limit stalled.
They remain at odds over budget cuts demanded by the Republicans as a condition for raising the ceiling.
Failure to do so could result in the US defaulting on its debt and cause havoc in the global economy.
