UK UNVEILS NEW MIGRANT LEGISLATION

The UK government's setting out new legislation designed to stop migrants crossing the English Channel to the UK in small boats.

Plans would prevent those who arrive illegally from claiming asylum or returning to the UK in future, and place a duty on the government to remove them from Britain.

Opposition parties and refugee groups say the plans are unworkable and possibly illegal.

Former special advisor at the Home Office, Claire Pearsall, says the UK won't be able to stop small boat crossings alone.
