In the UK members of the RMT union have announced further rail strikes will take place over Christmas. Staff will walk out from 6pm on Christmas Eve and not return to work until the 27th December in protest over pay, job security and working conditions. Network Rail had presented what it called its 'best and final offer' to unions last week - including a 5% pay rise. That offer was rejected, with union bosses saying it was 'not acceptable'.
