Ukrainian forces say they have recaptured several villages seized by the Russians north of Kharkiv, the country's second most-populous city.


The capture of the villages is a big confidence boost for Ukrainian forces, though it came on the same day that pro-Russian officials in the captured city of Kherson said they plan to ask Vladimir Putin to recognize the region as part of Russian territory.


Sergei Kyslysta is Ukraine's Ambassador to the United Nations and says the country is bracing for a long, grinding conflict.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today offered Finland and Sweden defense assistance in the event that either country comes under Russian attack.


Both are considering joining NATO in light of Moscow's aggression against Ukraine.


The British leader spoke after meeting the Finnish President in Helsinki.
