The United States has defended its new military alliance with
Australia and the United Kingdom following an international diplomatic
backlash.
The three-way AUKUS agreement will allow Australia to build
nuclear-powered submarines using US and UK technology.
But the security alliance has angered China - Beijing seeing it as an
effort to counter its claims in the South China Sea - and caused
problems with US ally France.
