US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanual Macron are due to speak over the phone in the coming days following a diplomatic row over a new defence pact between the US UK and Australia.
French spokesperson Gabriel Attal said Mr Biden had initiated the call.
The new trilateral arrangement will allow Australia to acquire nuclear-powered submarines using British and American technology but it resulted in France losing a multi billion dollar submarine contract with Australia.
