Canada is calling for the unconditional release of businessman Michael Spavor from Chinese custody after he was sentenced to 11 years in jail by a court in the city of Dandong on Wednesday.
Mr. Spavor was convicted of espionage, and he's been in Chinese custody since 2018.
Canada maintains he's being held in retaliation for the arrest in Vancouver of a top executive with telecoms giant Huawei.
