Afghan president flies to fourth largest city in helpless bid to stall Taliban advance

The Afghan government is scrambling to stall the Taliban’s seemingly-unstoppable military advance as one city after the other falls to militants.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has flown to the key city of Mazar-i-Sharif to try and rally military resistance to the Taliban.


US-led talks in Doha are continuing, with Washington threatening the Taliban with international isolation if they take the country by force.
