INTRO:
India on Tuesday reported its lowest number of new daily Covid-19 infections in four months, at 30,093 cases, according to health ministry figures.
The country recorded 374 Covid deaths in the past 24 hours - its lowest since the end of March.
This comes as the country is emerging from a deadly second wave of infections. Meanwhile a new study estimates the number of excess deaths during the pandemic at 10 times the official toll.
