India approves Russian-made Sputnik V amid a surge in COVID infections

India continues to wrestle with a record rise in COVID-19 case numbers, recording more than 161,000 cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the country's total caseload to over 13.6 million.

The Indian government says it will fast track approval for foreign vaccines that have already been granted emergency authorisation in other countries, amid fears of a shortfall in supplies.
