Brexit talks are resuming in London (Thursday) with the UK claiming the EU has given ground since last week's leaders' summit in Brussels.
EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier has acknowledged both sides will need to compromise for there to be a deal.
A statement after the EU summit last week suggested all compromises would need to be made by the UK, and failed to call for 'intensified' talks.
London and Brussels now say intensified discussions will continue in the coming days to try and reach a deal.
Former cabinet minister David Mellor believes the UK briefly walking away from face-to-face talks has succeeded.
