Japan's foreign minister, Toshimiitsu Motegi, is meeting the UK's international trade secretary, Liz Truss, to try and strike a free-trade deal by the end of the week.
This would be the first trade deal the UK has negotiated since leaving the European Union earlier in the year.
But it's not expected to be radically different from the agreement Japan had with the EU.
