Jobless claims rise for first time in 15 weeks

More Americans than expected filed for unemployment benefits last week
as a surge in Covid-19 cases hampers the country's economic recovery.

The 1.4 million initial jobless claims registered last week now marks
18 straight weeks that this figure has been above the million mark.
