Madrid and Barcelona emerge from lockdown in Spain

A number of European countries are taking steps to further loosen lockdowns from Monday. 

Spain has reopened its biggest cities, Madrid and Barcelona two weeks after the rest of the country.

Lucy Hough has more from Brussels. 

While the rest of the country began to reopen a fortnight ago, Madrid and barcelona were kept under stricter lockdown restrictions due to higher COVID19 risk 

But from Monday, Residents can now gather in groups of up to ten, at home or on the terraces of bars and restaurants and major parks were reopened

Greece has also restarted regular ferry services to the islands, while restaurants and bars were also back open for business as the country accelerated efforts to salvage its tourism season.

France has announced reciprocal mandatory 14-day quarantine for UK travellers from June 8th, mirroring the UK's announcement.
