US and China sign phase one trade deal

The US and China have signed an agreement as a first step aimed at easing the trade war between the two countries.

Speaking at the White House US President Donald Trump hailed the deal as "historic". In a letter, Chinese president Xi Jinping said it was a win-win.

The phase one agreement rolls back US tariffs on Chinese goods in return for China buying more U.S. products and strengthening intellectual property rules.

But many major issues remain unresolved with fresh talks on a Phase Two deal yet to be tabled.

At the signing, President Trump praised what he sees as his administration's success, as Kate Fisher reports from Washington
