UK GOVT LAUNCHES LAW AND ORDER PUSH

The new UK government of Boris Johnson is launching a review into toughening sentencing for the most serious offences.

The UK's Crown Prosecution Service will also receive a cash boost to deal with violent offenders and 10 000 new prison places are planned.

The law and order push is raising speculation Mr Johnson is preparing for a snap election.

An election may be forced as he tries to deliver Brexit on October 31st.

Justice Secretary Robert Buckland says it's right to scrutinise sentences.
