French President Emmanuel Macron hosts his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at his summer residence in Provence on Monday, just five days away from a G7 summit, to which the Russian President is not invited.
Russia was expelled from what was then the G8 after the occupation of Crimea in 2014 - but remains at the heart of some of the thorny diplomatic debates the leaders will be having.
