New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says gun laws will change.

Pending parliamentary approval, there will be a gun amnesty and a buy-back scheme.

But most importantly, the new laws would also ban the sale of semi-automatic assault rifles.

In the meantime, an interim ban is now in place.

Last week, an Australian national entered two mosques in Christchurch and shot and killed 50 people.

Funerals are being held this week.

Ardern took just six days after the massacre to announce her firearms ban.
