France’s most senior cleric resigns after cover-up conviction

France's most senior Roman Catholic cleric, Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, has submitted his resignation to the Pope - but he says he will appeal his conviction for failing to report sexual abuse allegations against a priest. 

Cardinal Barbarin was given a six month suspended sentence on Tuesday morning.
