UK CONTINUES TO SEEK BREXIT BACKSTOP CHANGES

The UK's Brexit Secretary is meeting with EU ambassadors in London (Friday) to call for legally binding changes to the Irish border backstop solution.

It comes after the government was defeated in a vote on its Brexit strategy in the House of Commons on Thursday.

Downing Street insists it continues to work towards changes to the backstop in the Brexit deal - and then an EU exit as planned next month.

The opposition Labour Party says the vote shows Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit deal is dead.

Conservative MP Bob Stewart says he still hopes a deal will be reached.
