India's Supreme Court refuses reopening of Tamil Nadu copper plant

India's top court has refused to permit the reopening of a copper smelter in Tamil Nadu in India. 

Residents in the city of Tuticorin staged protests last year, arguing that the copper plant belonging to a subsidiary of mining giant Vedanta was harmful to their health, leading to its closure.
