Explosions have been heard in the capital of Zimbabwe, amid reports that the army may be launching a coup against the rule of the country's 93 year-old President Robert Mugabe.
The headquarters of the national broadcaster in Zimbabwe have been surrounded by troops, and the whereabouts of President Mugabe and his wife Grace are unknown.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Harare is advising staff to shelter in place because of what it calls "political uncertainty".
