Russia has vetoed a UN resolution proposing to continue investigating
chemical weapon attacks in Syria.
The UN Security Council failed to pass the US resolution that would
have seen the Joint Investigative Mechanism continue for another 12
months.
Western countries accused Russia of trying to "shoot the messenger" as
an upcoming report is expected to show the Russian-backed Syrian
government was behind recent attacks.
UN correspondent Nick Harper says the Security Council ended up voting
twice but passing nothing.
