Catalan's President Opens to Door for Dialogue with Madrid

All of the pressure placed on Barcelona worked—as evident with the president of Catalonia not unilaterally declaring independence.

During a highly anticipated Tuesday night address to the Catalan Parliament—the region's president said he wants to leave room for talks to develop with the central government.

In September, during a visit with the Spanish Prime Minister and President of the Spanish Government Rajoy, U.S. President Donald Trump said he thought independence for Catalonia would be foolish.

Now, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says, the U.S. position is unchanged.
