Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to take to the streets of Barcelona on Monday for Catalonia's national day - just three weeks ahead of an independence referendum the regional government has sworn to hold.
Madrid says the vote is illegal and it will bring criminal charges against anyone involved in organising it.
