The U.S. State Department has confirmed they are aware an American may have been fighting in Syria for the Islamic State and has been captured or surrendered to Kurdish forces.
The U.S. military says that any fighter for the Islamic State will be "transported humanely" to their home country, as reported by the Daily Beast.
U.S. State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert had little to add except that fighting for the Islamic State is not a good idea.
