DOCTORS: Freed American Otto Warmbier suffered extreme brain injury, state of 'unresponsive wakefulness'


The American student recently released from North Korea has suffered extensive brain injury - according to the Ohio-based medical team treating him.

Otto Warmbier returned to the United States this week after over a year in prison - according to North Korea the 22-year old fell into a coma in March 2016.

After his arrival in his home state he was taken to the Cincinnati Medical Center.

Dr. Daniel Kanter says an MRI of Mr Warmbier showed extensive damage to the brain and that his current state was one of 'unresponsive wakefulness'.
