US Supreme Court rules against Republican lawmakers in North Carolina for redrawing district lines

INTRO:
The US Supreme Court has ruled against Republican lawmakers in the
state of North Carolina, saying that racial bias played into their
drawing of North Carolina's district lines after the 2010 census.

In a significant decision, the Supreme Court said that Republican
officials disenfranchised black communities in order to benefit their
own party.

Redrawing voting district lines is a common political tactic in the US
- and can have a big impact on the outcome of elections.

US Correspondent Laura Cantekin reports.
